PURPOSE:To attain execution by one decoder by applying 5 stages of processing processes during 5 divisions in 6-time divisions and shifting the decoding of two Reed solomon codes by 1 division each. CONSTITUTION:Data of syndrome operated by a syndrome operating section 1 is inputted to a coefficient/error pattern operation common use section 2 through the circuit constitution in figure, coefficients sigma1, sigma2 are operated. The data of the coefficients sigma1, sigma2 is given to an error positioning section 3, the data of an erroneous position decided is returned and inputted again to the coefficient/error pattern operation common use section 2, from which an error pattern is obtained. An error correction section 4 executes the error correction by using the data of the error pattern. The timewise relation of the circuit is as shown in figure (b). The operation of the coefficient/error pattern operation common use section 2 is not overlapped because the CI code is processed in divisions II, IVand the C2 code is processed in divisions III, V.
