A key for use in the aligned keyways of a roll neck of a rolling mill and a sleeve of a hydrodynamic oil film bearing is hydraulically expansible to form a substantially rigid abutment between the sleeve and the roll neck. The key consists of a body (1) having a number of cylinders (3) which open to one face and each of which contains a piston (5). The pistons (5) can be urged outwardly of the body (1) by supplying liquid under pressure to the cylinders (3) through a restricted passage (9). A bore (11) formed in the body (1) contains the liquid which is compressed by a spring- biased plunger (15). A plunger sleeve (17) on the plunger is located externally of the body (1); when the sleeve ring on the roll neck is tightened to urge the bearing sleeve along the roll neck, it engages the plunger sleeve (17) and causes compression of the liquid. <IMAGE> |
