PURPOSE:To improve a catalyst layer with high activity by profitably employing, as a carbon carrier for carrying a platinum catalyst, one within a specified range in its specific surface area. CONSTITUTION:As a carbon carrier for forming a catalyst layer, carbon powder having a specific surface area ranging 150-300m<2>/gr, preferably ranging 150- 200m<2>/gr is employed. Hereby, catalytic activity is increased whatever thermal hysteresis inevitable upon manufacture of an electrode is, and development of corrosion of the carbon carrier due to an electrolyte is limited to a minimum, and thus an electrode catalyst layer capable of improving an output and a life of the cell can be yielded. |
