PURPOSE:To selectively perform the hydrogenation of the unsaturated double bond of the conjugated diene unit of a conjugated diene polymer under a mild condition, by using a titanocene diallyl compound having high activily even in the absence of a reducible metal compound as a hydrogenation catalyst. CONSTITUTION:A titanocene compound represented by formula (wherein R1-R6 are an 1-4C alkyl group and one or more of R1-R3 and that of R4-R6 are hydrogen), for example, di-p-tribis (eta-cyclopentadienyl) titanium is used as a catalyst and a polymer, which is obtained by polymerizing or copolymerizing conjugated diene such as 1, 3-butadiene or isoprene, is brought into contact with hydrogen in an inert org. solvent in the presence of the aforementioned catalyst to selectively hydrogenate the unsaturated double bond of the conjugated diene unit in said polymer.
