PURPOSE:To provide the titled thickener containing a specific polycarboxylic acid copolymer and a crosslinked polyacrylic acid at a specific ratio. CONSTITUTION:The objective thickener for poultice is prepared by compounding (A) a polycarboxylic acid copolymer having a pH of <=8 and obtained by the polymerization of two kinds of monomers selected from the compounds of formula (R is H, COOH, etc.; R1 is H, CH3, etc.; R2 is H or alkali metal) or their salts and (B) a crosslinked polyacrylic acid having a viscosity of >=400cps as 0.2wt% aqueous solution of the product neutralized completely with NaOH, using a Brookfield viscometer (20 deg.C, 30rpm). The amount of the component B is 10-70wt%, preferably 15-60wt% based on the total amount of the component A. The thickener has excellent adhesivity and water-retainability, and keeps the drug component stably for a long time. The amount of the thickener added to the poultice composition is 0.5-15wt%.
