PURPOSE:To hold the density of a transfer image on recording paper invariably constant by moving the same optical system and exposing and scanning a reference image plate provided outside of platen glass before an original is exposed and scanned. CONSTITUTION:The 1st mirror unit 3 and the 2nd mirror unit 4 start exposing and scanning the reference image plate P with a signal from a sensor which detects the passing of the original, and a photosensitive drum 6 and respective processes of image formation regarding it operate. Consequently, an image of the image plate P is formed as an electrostatic latent image on the peripheral surface of the drum 6 and visualized into toner image. Then, information for controlling the quantity of exposure, an electrostatic charging voltage, or developing bias for adjusting the density and gradations of the transfer image from an original to be copied successively to a proper state is obtained from the result of the detection of the density of the toner image. |
