PURPOSE:To eliminate effectively an offensive smell and foul breath, by using an extract of natural plant beefsteak plant with an alcohol as a food deodorant. CONSTITUTION:A deodorant obtained by pulverizing natural beefsteak plant Perilla frutescens discolor or Perilla frutescens Britt. var. crispa Decne dried by heating or freezing, extracting the resultant powder with 85-99vol./vol% ethyl alcohol at 10-30 deg.C, and using the resultant extract of the natural beefsteak plant with the alcohol as a food deodorant, e.g. by adding to a garlic or a food contaning the same or toffees for preventing foul breath to eliminate the offensive smell of the food or foul breath. The deodorant component in the beefsteak plant can be selectively extracted in high quality and yield by the above- mentioned method.
