A machine for measuring the roughness of a surface of an object material (18) by converting into a digital signal an analog output signal from a displacement detector (32) which is adapted to electrically detect the rotational displacement of a measuring arm (5), and computing this output signal. This surface roughness measuring machine includes a timing circuit (40) for dividing a measuring length, which is set by a setter (42), uniformly by a sampling number N which is the nth power of 2, and controlling an A/D converter (39) during a sampling operation. |
