Method for measuring cavities such as tubes, tanks and the like in conjunction with the introduction of the measuring apparatus into the cavity, definition of a main axis passing through the cavity, alignment of the measuring apparatus with the main axis and measurement of the polar coordinates of the cavity with reference to the main axis, as well as a device for carrying out this method having an angle-of-rotation sensor, three tripod legs which extend radially outwards from the angle-of-rotation sensor and are provided with shifting devices and adjusting devices, a hollow axle centrally piercing the angle-of-rotation sensor, and a length-measuring pick-up mounted capable of rotation about the hollow axle.
