The device which is the subject of the invention relates to a sealing and retention device for testing tubes by pressurising an internal fluid. The device comprises a test head fitted with a contractable annular seal 10 which has a composite structure. This seal comprises on the one hand an elastomer-based sleeve 18 whose surface orientated towards the tube is provided with an annular rim 19 which projects in the direction of the tube and, on the other hand, an annular metal wall 20 which is not closed and which has, at rest, a curvature close to the curvature of the tube 9. Advantageously, the thickness of the annular metal wall 20 is greater than the radial clearance existing between the convex surface of the tube to be tested and the concave surface of the entry point through which the tube penetrates the test head. This device is particularly well suited for hydraulic testing of tubes at pressures of 10 to 100 bar. <IMAGE>
