Process for conveying viscous heavy oils of petroleum origin using an oil pipeline and in the form of oil-in-water emulsions, in which the heavy oils are formed into an oil-in-water emulsion using a combination of surfactant agents comprising: a. from 0 to 100 % by weight of a mixture containing from 100 to approximately 70 % by weight of an alkylarylsulphonate of formula: (R)a-Ar-(SO3M)b and from 0 to approximately 30 % by weight of a polyalkylnaphthalenesulphonate; -b. from 100 to 0 % by weight of a phosphoric ester of polyoxyethylenated alkylphenol of formula: [R-(O-CH2-CH2)xO]mP(O)(OH)p the proportion, in the combination in question, of the surfactant agents defined under a. being predominant when the water with the aid of which the emulsion is prepared contains little electrolyte and that of the agents defined under b. is predominant when the said water contains a lot of electrolyte, such as seawater.
