PURPOSE:To prevent an information transmission function as a system from being stopped or intermitted by installing a branching device consisting of an optical switch and an optical transmitter/receiver near plural transmission lines provided in different routes to supply the power to each branching device independently of the station. CONSTITUTION:A switch is provided to the position of contact (b) normally so that a signal from a transmission line 2 is transmitted to an optical transmitter/ receiver section 4 and a signal from the optical transmitter/receiver 4 is transmitted to the transmission line 2. When the bypass control power 14 to the optical switch 3 is interrupted, the internal setting of the optical switch 3 is changed over from the position of contact (b) to the position of contact (a) as shown in the arrow 9 so that the optical signal from the transmission line 2 is bypassed without being transmitted to the optical transmitter/receiver section 4. The optical switch 3 has a function to apply compensation so that the transmission of the optical signal on the transmission line 2 is not stopped even when the power supplied to the optical transmitter/receiver section 4 is intermitted or a fault takes place in the optical transmitter/receiver section 4 in this way. |
