In order to measure the rotational speed of a slowly rotating shaft (1), a wheel (2) provided on the circumferential side with teeth (3) is mounted on said shaft, the teeth having a spacing (M) from one another, pole bodies (4) which have a spacing (N) from one another being positioned opposite the teeth. The spacings (M) and (N) are set up in such a way that (n-1) teeth (3) are opposite (n) pole bodies (4). The resolving power of this measuring arrangement is thus conditioned by the difference in the spacings (M) and (N), the n-fold multiple of this difference corresponding to the spacing (M). <IMAGE>
