PURPOSE:To measure the number of passing vehicles with high accuracy by detecting the position and speed of a vehicle from a video signal obtained by taking an overhead photograph at a specific period from above a road surface, and counting the number of vehicles up to the position where the rearmost vehicle advances. CONSTITUTION:The video signal from a photographing device 1 is sent to a position detecting means 2 to detect the presence position of the vehicle. The signal indicating the vehicle presence position detected by the means 2 is sent to a speed detecting means 3. The speed detecting means 3 detects the vehicle speed from the vehicle presence position of two video signals inputted while a time interval is set properly. The detection signals of the means 2 and 3 are inputted to the input/output signal processing circuit 8 of a microcomputer 5. The microcomputer 5 decides on vehicles which are present in an area where the number of passing vehicles is detected from the vehicle presence position detected by the means 2 and totalize the number of vehicles as the number of passing vehicles. The area is determined on the basis the vehicle speed and position of the rearmost running vehicle. |
