Unexpectedly occurring slipperiness of the road leads again and again to serious accidents. This can be countered by measuring the tyre grip of one or more wheels permanently or once suspicion has been aroused. A suitable measure of the tyre grip is the force which is exerted laterally on the wheel bearing by a wheel rolling obliquely, because in the event of a reducing tyre grip this force likewise decreases. Forces due to other causes which likewise act laterally on the wheel bearing can be eliminated from the measurements by means of suitable measures.
