NEW MATERIAL:An adenine derivative shown by the formula I (R is organic group residue shown by the formula II, formula III, formula IV, formula V, formula VI, formula VII, or formula VIII). USE:Showing inhibitory actions on Na-K-ATP ase(adenosinetriphosphatase), having antimicrobial action, inhibitory action on contraction of smooth muscle, useful as a drug. PREPARATION:A certain sponge of Agelas sp. is ground, extracted with a proper solvent to give compounds where R is groups shown by the formula II- formula VII, which are purified by column chromatography, and isolated, respectively. The compound where R is group shown by the formula VIII is obtained by reacting the compound shown by the formula II with acetic acid and hydrochloric acid so that a double bond is transferred followed by transition of methyl group.
