PURPOSE:To sharpen a coating edge without applying masking, in flat fan shaped spray, by spraying a paint in such a state that a liquid spray screen part in which fine paint particles are absent is contacted with the surface of an article to be painted. CONSTITUTION:A flat fan shaped spray pattern is formed into a spray screen SSa having an almost equilateral triangle of which the apex is present in the vicinity of the jet orifice of an airless nozzle 15 and the liquid below the bottom said part of said screen SSa is successively converted to fine particles from a liquid droplet form and applied to the surface of an article to be painted. Herein, when it is necessary to sharpen the edging of a coating film, the liquid spray screen part X1-X, of the screen SSa is contacted with the surface to be painted and a gun is moved. By this method, the liquid paint is applied to the surface of the article to be painted as it is in the width SSa1-SSa2 of the screen part X1-X1 and sharp stripes of both side edges SSa1, SSa2 are developed.
