摘要 PURPOSE:To obtain a photothermomagnetic recording medium consisting of bismuth substd. magnetic garnet epitaxial having good crystallinity by providing a layer having the lattice constant of the value intermediate of the lattice constants of a bismuth substd. garnet epitaxial film and a non-magnetic garnet substrate and having a garnet structure. CONSTITUTION:A GdIG film is formed to about 0.2mum thickness by a sputtering method on a non-magnetic garnet substrate for which 111GGG is used. a bismuth substd. YIG(BiY2IG) film is then formed to 1.5mum thickness as a bismuth substd. garnet epitaxial film on the GdIG film. Sintered bodies of GdIG then BiY2IG are used as a target and pure oxygen is used as a gaseous atmosphere in a sputtering method in which the GdIG film is first formed by sputtering, then the BiY2IG film is formed on the substrate kept heated to 500 deg.C. The substrate is further subjected to a heat treatment for 3hr at 800 deg.C in air, by which the respective epitaxial films consisting of GdIG, BiY2IG are obtd.
