TYRE FABRIC MANUFACTURE

Manufacture of tyre fabric in the form of an elongate strip comprising winding a single cord back and forth diagonally across the width of the strip, around a series of edge holding pins, and embedding the fabric so formed in elastomer. The pins are slidably mounted in guide blocks which are movable in a step-wise fashion in the direction of the length of the strip of fabric. The pins may be retracted from the material once formed. The cord is laid by means of a laying head which includes means for moving the cord relatively perpendicular to the direction of lay so as to form a loop around a pin.
