PURPOSE:To attain gain setting by minimum operation and time by setting the gain of th read amplifier in one read/write while the gain setting region of a read head is used for the first and latter half of an ARA burst. CONSTITUTION:A read signal of a read head 1 is amplified by an preamplifier 3 and that of a read head 2 is amplified by a preamplifier 4 respectively and the amplified read signal is fed to a switch 5. As the magnetic head used in this case, as shown in Fig. as an example, a write head 13 is clipped in a magnetic head 10 and the read heads 1, 2 are arranged incorporatedly. In taking the forward direction of the magnetic tape 11 as a direction shown in the arrow, the read head 1 is a head reading the forward direction and the read head 2 is a head reading the reverse direction. Furthermore, the write head 13 and the read heads 1, 2 are constituted so as to be opposed to one track of the magnetic tape 11. |
