PURPOSE:The titled resin excellent in refractive index, transparency, mechanical properties, and dimensional stability, obtained by polymerizing a monomer mixture mainly consisting of a specified monomer. CONSTITUTION:0.0001-10wt% radical polymerization catalyst (e.g., benzoyl peroxide) is added to a monomer mixture comprising 10-100wt% monomer of formula I (wherein X is a group of formula II-V, R1 and R2 are each a 1-18C hydrocarbon residue, or an oxygen-containing hydrocarbon residue) and 90- 0wt% monomer which provides a homopolymer of a refractive index >=1.5 (e.g., styrene). The resulting mixture is poured into the space between molds spaced by a gasket or a spacer and slowly polymerized at room temperature -40 deg.C. The temperature is raised gradually, and the polymerization is continued at 80- 120 deg.C for 5-30hr to obtain a resin for a high-refractive index lens.
