An auxiliary high-speed gearing for drilling and milling machines and suchlike machine tools has a gear case (6) which can be connected to the spindle housing (2) of the machine tool in such a way as to be fixed in terms of rotation. Rotatably mounted in the gear case (6) is a drive shank (7) which has a tapered shank (8) fitting into a tapered location bore (3) of the machine-tool spindle (1). A bearing bush (11) with a tool-holding spindle (12) rotatably mounted therein is flange mounted on the front end of the drive shank (7). The bearing bush (11) has a tapered location bore (13) coaxial to the drive shank (7) for the tapered shank (14) of a drilling or milling tool. A planetary gear unit is provided between drive shank (7) and tool-holding spindle (12). The bearing bush (11) is surrounded by a cylindrical cooling jacket (44) to avoid greater heating. The cooling jacket (44) is connected to the gear case (6) and is supplied with coolant from the spindle housing (2).
