The subject-matter of the application is an arrangement for connecting vertical supports and horizontal bars of upright furniture which adjoin the side surfaces of said vertical supports with their front sides. It comprises at least one perforated rail which is located inserted in a vertical groove in the side surface of the relevant support, a hook element which can be hooked into said rail and has a hook part, which engages in the vertical groove of the support, as well as a projecting coupling piece, and a counter-part which is attached to the respective horizontal bar and can be brought into engagement with the coupling piece on the hook element. In this case, the connection between the coupling piece on the hook element and the counter-part on the bar is to be simplified, its precision increased, and the assembly of the bars on the supports facilitated. For this purpose, the coupling piece of the hook element and the counter-part on the horizontal bar have guide contours which run in the horizontal direction transversely to the hook part and engage in one another in a positive-locking manner, and the bar has on its front side a groove, which is at least also open on its rear side, in the direction of the depth, in which groove the counter-part is arranged in a fully countersunk manner.
