PURPOSE:To easily detect the abnormal part of a fine wire, by a simple apparatus utilizing such a phenomenon that the amplification degree of gas by an avalanche phenomenon of ionization abruptly increases with the reduction of a wire diameter and also changes by the contamination of a wire surface. CONSTITUTION:Rubber pipes are connected to communication ports 2, 3 provided to both ends of a cylindrical housing 1 comprising an electric conductor to flow ionized gas with a definite component while a radiation source 10 is arranged to the outside of the window 9 of the housing 1. Further, a fine wire 6 to be inspected is pierced through minute holes of elastic materials 4, 5 provided to both ends of the housing 1 and one end thereof is held between rollers 7, 8 while the fine wire 6 is earthed through bearings of the rollers 7, 8. In addition, the fine wire 6 is run to the direction shown by the arrow (p) and high negative voltage is applied to the housing 1 from a power source 12 through a high resistor 11 while the change in the voltage of the housing 1 is amplified by an amplifier 13 to be monitored by a metering instrument 14. By this method, the abnormal part of the fine wire can be easily detected. |
