PURPOSE:To increase sharply the packing density of magnetic powder in a magnetic layer and to enable the high-density recording by incorporating the magnetic powder whose surface is treated with >=1 kind of compd. selected from the chelating compds. of Fe, Ni, Mn, Ti, Cu, and V into the titled recording medium. CONSTITUTION:The magnetic powder whose surface is treated with >=1 kind of compd. selected from the chelating compds. of Fe, Ni, Mn, Ti, Cu, and V is incorporated into the recording medium. 0.1-10wt%, based on the magnetic powder, >=1 kind of said chelating compd. is dissolved into an organic solvent. The magnetic powder is dispersed and suspended in said soln., agitated for from 30min to 10hr, and subsequently dried to obtain the magnetic powder whose surface is treated with the chelating compd. When <0.1wt% chelating compd. is added, a sufficient effect can not be expected. And when >10wt% is added, the residual magnetic flux density and squareness are conversely decreased.
