PURPOSE:To make it possible to perform the good operation of a vehicle, by providing a vehicle driver position discriminating apparatus for accurately discriminating the three-dimensional position of a driver. CONSTITUTION:Discrimination processing for discriminating the three-dimensional position of a driver from two two-dimensional images showing the upper body of the driver obtained by image detection parts 12, 13 is performed by a control circuit 20. Further, the control circuit 20 has an input output part 21 equipped with an A/D converter or an amplifier circuit, CPU22 for performing processing for discriminating the three-dimensional position of the driver from two two-dimensional images, ROM23 in which data required in discrimination is preliminarily stored, RAM24 in which data similarly required in discrimination is temporarily stored and a backup RAM25 to which a power source is always supplied and equipped with power source circuits 27, 29. Furthermore, an ignition switch 28 usually has four-stage change-over positions of OFF, ACC, ON and START.
