The present invention relates to waterproof insulating materials, in particular for building purposes. The invention teaches that a multilayered insulating material may be composed of an inner layer of lead with an inert-material coating on either side. Lead in the form of foils may be used as the insulating material, it being possible to provide an inert coating, e.g. a flexible coating of varnish or bitumen, on either side of the lead of thin wall thickness. <IMAGE>
