PURPOSE:To contrive an increase in the number of characters capable of being printed by on ribbon cartridge, by a construction wherein a part for storing the number of times of use a part of which can be mechanically deformed is provided on an ink ribbon cartridge. CONSTITUTION:When it is detected by sensors 8, 9 provided on a cartridge- fitting part 7 that neither of claws 3, 4 provided on the ink ribbon cartridge 1 is bent, a printer fixes the direction of the cartridge 1 in a direction A, thereby opposing the first layer 11 of the ink ribbon 2 to a thermal head 6, and printing is performed. When the first layer 11 is completely used, the ribbon 2 is rewound to the leading end thereof, the claw 3 is bent, and the cartridge 1 is again fitted to the part 7, whereby the bend of the claw 3 is detected by the sensor 9, the printer fixes the direction of the cartridge 1 in a direction B, thereby opposing the second layer 12 of the ribbon 2 to the head 6, and printing is again performed. Similarly, after using up the second layer 12, the claw 4 is bent, and the third layer 13 is opposed to the head 6. Accordingly, a single ribbon 2 can be used in a separate manner for each of the three layers. |
