Desulphurisation of liquid cast iron in a ladle. The first subject of the invention is a process for desulphurising liquid cast iron in a ladle by injecting a pulverulent desulphurising product in suspension in a carrier gas, characterised at the same time in that the pulverulent desulphurising product is introduced into the cast iron by means of a first immersed lance fed with dense phase, that is to say with a quantity of gas of between 5 and 15 litres of carrier gas per kilogram of desulphurising product, and in that the stirring of the cast iron and of the desulphurising product is regulated and controlled by blowing in a stirring gas by means of a second immersed lance. A further subject of the invention is a device for using the process described above, characterised in that the two lances for injecting the desulphurising product and for stirring are parallel, mounted on the same single movable frame or on the same single movable trolley and are adjustable in position independently of each other. The invention applies to the treatment of liquid metals such as cast iron or steel and especially well to the desulphurisation of cast iron in a ladle using pulverulent calcium carbide or using pulverulent magnesium. <IMAGE>
