The packed bed filter is composed of a housing subdivided by a partition into a dusty gas chamber and a clean gas chamber. The packed bed layers which are mounted in the dusty gas chamber and can be charged from above with packing are bordered on both sides by rigid, gas-permeable material strips arranged one above the other and which can be pushed from the clean gas side through one or more slots into the dusty gas chamber, which material strips can be tightly supported at the free end, the outlet side of the packed bed layers being connected to the clean gas chamber of the housing via perforations in the partition.
