PURPOSE:To obtain an image pickup device with excellent S/N and simple constitution by providing an electric charge eliminating section eliminating an electric charge transferred by an unnecessary electric charge transfer section and provided at the end of the said unnecessary electric charge transfer section and a drive means driving an unnecessary electric charge transfer section. CONSTITUTION:The unnecessary electric charge transfer sections 100, 102 among the sections 100-103 to transfer an unnecessary electric charge are provided to the end of the photodetector section 1 and the 101, 103 are provided at the end of a memory section. Moreover, the transfer sections 100, 101 and the transfer sections 102, 103 form a common electric charge transfer path. OFD 1-3 are drains as the electric charge eliminating section and the OFD1, OFD2 are to discharge the electric charge transferred from the transfer sections 101, 103 to drains respectively. A clock driver 9 being a drive means forms drive pulses phiPI, phiPI2, phiPS2, phiPS1, phiS1, phiS2 formed by a clock generator 10 and driving an image sensor IS based on various clock signals.
