PURPOSE:To make a transfer screw for conveying swarf from a machine tool, etc. lightweight to enhance the efficiency of transfer of the swarf and as well to make it possible to simplify the manufacture of the spiral screw, by winding a plate-like member spirally onto a hollow pipe, and by welding the plate-like member to the pipe at least one position per every pitch. CONSTITUTION:A flat bar 16 is wound around a cylinder 18 under hot working by heating with the one end of the flat bar 16 being secured, to be formed into a high density spiral 7 consisting of the flat bar 16. Then, the free one of the spiral 7 which is secured at the one end is pulled to widen the pitches thereof while the inner diameter D2 thereof is made equal to the diameter of a hollow rotary shaft 8. Then the thus extended spiral 7 is fitted onto the hollow rotary shaft 8 while they are welllded the welded to be secured together at least one position per every pitch. With this arrangement, there may be simply obtained a spiral screw which is lightweight and has a high transfer speed. |
