To press a plug into a hole drilled out in a wooden element 1 by means of a drilling spindle 2, a plug is drawn in at a withdrawal point (cutter 3b) by a plug fetcher 4 pivotable through 90 DEG . While maintaining the vacuum, the plug fetcher 4 is pivoted to the drilled-out hole (below the drilling spindle 2) and lowered there in order to press the plug into the hole provided with glue by the glue nozzle 8. <IMAGE>
