PURPOSE:To obtain a brass alloy consisting of prescribed percentages of Cu, Al, Fe, Si, Sn and Zr and the balance Zn and having higher wear resistance than high strength brass. CONSTITUTION:Each wear resistant brass alloy of this invention consists of, by weight, 55-70% Cu, 1.0-6.0% Al, 0.1-3.0% Fe, 0.05-2.0% Si, 0.1-3.0% Sn, 0.1-3.0% Zr and the balance Zn. Characteristics of the brass alloy and known high strength brass after melting, casting and hot forging are shown in the figure. The brass alloy is superior to conventional high strength brass in results of a tension test and hardness, and it is also superior in toughness. The brass alloy has high wear resistance especially at high temp. and load, so it is well fit for use under severe conditions.
