PURPOSE:To allow extraction of graphic factor connecting lines connecting with grapic factors and recognition of connecting relation of mutural graphic factors by finding the precise direction of graphic line. CONSTITUTION:A figure is inputted from an input device 41 and graphic data are stored in a frame memory 42. A control part 43 reads out data such as a size of a position coordinate of a graphic factor extracted from a graphic element extracting part 44 and its type, and transmits them into an investigation circular coordinate generating part 45, which generates external/internal investigation circular coordinate string enclosing graphic factors in accordance with these data. An intersection detecting part 46 receives said data, and reads out their picture element data from the frame memory 42. After it detects an intersection of an investigation circle and a graphic line, it stores its coordinate value in a buffer 47. An intersection decision part 48 detects a pair of intersections which have possibility of a short straight line at both sides by a detecting pair from intersections stored in the buffer 47, and transmits coordinate value data of this pair of intersections to a straight line tracking part 49.
