PURPOSE:To form an insulating layer, which is uniform and is difficult to peel, with a low cost even if, especially, a magnetic core part or the like of a thin film magnetic head has a complicated sectional shape, by applying an organic metal onto a body to be insulated and heating it thereafter to form the insulating layer consisting of a metal oxide. CONSTITUTION:For example, with respect to a thin film magnetic head, the surface of a ferrite core 1 which is the body to be insulated is finished by polishing and is washed and dried, and an organic metal solution such as a metal alcoholate or the like is applied. For example, many ferrite cores 1 are fixed without gaps on a turntable 9 of an applying device, and a solution 11 of the organic metal is dropped from a dropping device 10 to apply it to surfaces of cores 1 with a uniform thickness while rotating the table 9 in the direction of an arrow X. After application, cores 1 are detached and are heated at 400-600 deg.C to form an insulating layer 2 consisting of the metal oxide. Next, the second insulating layer 4 is formed similarly to the layer 2 after a coil 3 is formed. Finally, a magnetic thin film 5 is formed on the layer 4 to produce a magnetic head having a sliding face 7 and a gap 6. Thus, insulating layers are formed uniformly independently of shapes of bodies to be insulated. |
