PURPOSE:To provide a thermal recording material having a high developed color density and enhanced in recording sensitivity, by providing an intermediate layer comprising an inorganic pigment and/or an organic pigment having a specific gravity of not higher than a specified value and a film-forming high molecular weight binder between a base and a thermal recording layer. CONSTITUTION:An intermediate layer comprising an inorganic pigment and/or an organic pigment having a specified gravity of not higher than 0.7g/cm<3> and a film-forming high molecular weight binder is provided between a base and a thermal recording layer, in a thermal recording material wherein a thermal recording layer comprising microcapsules containing a basic dye precursor therein and a color developer for developing the color of the dye precursor is provided on a base. The pigment may be, for example, kaolin or fired kaolin. The weight ratio of the amount of the pigment to that of the binder is 100:8-100:30. The amount of the intermediate layer is 1-15g/m<2>. The intermediate layer effectively absorbs an excess of the color developer in a melted state, water content or the like, prevent a recording head from being contaminated, and enhances the surface smoothness of the recording material. |
