Method for matching a complex load impedance to a real connected impedance

To match a complex load impedance to a real connected impedance, switchable capacitors located in cross elements of a four-terminal impedance transformation network are added in first steps until the real part of the transformed impedance is equal to the connected impedance, and in further steps, switchable inductances located in longitudinal elements of the four-terminal network are added until the amount of the reflection factor reaches a minimum. During the determination of the reflection factor, the phase is only measured during the first steps and only within a range of unambiguousness of 180 DEG which keeps down the expenditure for the phase detector whilst retaining high accuracy.
