<p>A clutch assembly suitable for a mechanical forging pressing comprises a rotatable shaft (10) having an annular body (24) rotatably mounted on it. The body defines a cylinder (32) coaxial with the shaft. An annular friction disc (16) is located in the cylinder and is mounted for rotation with the shaft. The piston is urged against the disc to clamp it between the piston and the annular body to thereby couple the annular body and the shaft together. The clamping pressure applied by the piston is made adjustable so that the maximum torque applied by the shaft cannot exceed a predetermined value.</p> |
