PURPOSE:To obtain inexpensively the titled polymer of low coloration, high transparency and excellent in electroconductivity and antistatic property, by halogenating monomer units of one kind, haloalkylating monomer units of the other kind and quateraminizing the monomer units of both kinds. CONSTITUTION:At least 50% monomer units of formula I of a copolymer containing monomer units of formulas I and II (wherein R1 is H or CH3 and R2 is a 1-4C alkyl) in a ratio of formula I to formula II of 60-20:40-80 (by mol%), and, optionally, other monomers are halogenated. Then at least 20% monomer units of formula II are haloalkylated, and at least 25% total of the monomer units of formulas I and II are quateraminized. It is possible to obtain inexpensively a cationic polymer having low coloration and high transparency and being excellent in electroconductivity and antistatic property.
