The system handles up to 6 meter lengths of heavy steel bars, tubing or castings and includes U-shaped supports, optionally of open or box configuration. The supports have at least two hook-shaped suspension lugs, of which the tops are slightly off-set inwards. A crane-operated balance beam ensures positioning of a bundle of steel bars which are placed between the U-shaped brackets, and which may be interconnected. Alternatively, a box-shaped support may be used when handling shorter lengths.
