PURPOSE:To raise sharply the dielectric breakdown voltage of the glass in the neck of a cathode ray tube by coating a portion of the spacer to support the electron gun structure, which is to be in contact with the inner wall of the neck, with polyimide resin. CONSTITUTION:The tip of a spacer 20, which is opposite to an inner wall 4a of the neck, is coated with polyimide resin 30, and contacts the inner wall 4a of the neck through this polyimide resin 30 and supports an electron gun structure 9. Since the spacer 20 which requires a strong elastic force does not contact an inner conductive film 5, even when a vibration occurs at the time and after the electron gun structure 9 is inserted into the neck 4 during the manufacturing process of a cathode ray tube, the inner conductive film 5 will never be scatched by the spacer 20, and therefore the good dielectric characteristics will be obtained. In addition, even when a metallic element 23 with an earth potential approaches, a portion of the mask 4 opposite to the tip of the spacer will not be subjected to a high voltage electric field, causing no cracks on the glass of the neck. |
