The invention proposes a colour coding based on the anodising of the end plugs 36, 38 of the fuel rods 12 to obtain predetermined distinct colours which correspond to particular enrichments. Recordings of the colours, preferably a photograph, are kept for use for comparison and for checking correct correspondence between the anodised end plugs of the fuel rods with a recording of the actual enrichment of the fuel present in this rod and, preferably, also with a recording of the desired enrichment in the case of each rod location inside the fuel assembly before the fitting of the fuel assembly is completed. <IMAGE>
