The rectangular frame comprises two horizontal strips (17) and two upright strips (10) which have a groove (14) in which the two ends of a horizontal wiper (16) can be moved up and down. The frame is also provided with a further parallel groove in which the window pane or the like can be fastened. The sides of the frame are provided with openings (31) through which the cleaning fluid can be sprayed and the wiper (16) is pressed against the surface to be cleaned so that when moved vertically it takes up the sprayed-on fluid and the particles of dirt mixed with it. Since the siper extends the full width and is moved over the full height of the pane by means of endless cables (24) or the like the dirt once removed is not spread back on.
