A closed pneumatic suspension system for motor vehicles is proposed in which the pump (2) and drive motor (3) and the level-control device (solenoid valves 12, 13, 18) are arranged in the storage vessel (1). A forward and reverse-running vane cell pump is used as pump (2), which can both inflate and deflate. As a result, in addition to the solenoid valves (12, 13, 18) for the level-control device only a single multi-position solenoid valve (24, 36) is needed, which is inserted into the connection from the pump (2) to the level control device (solenoid valve 12, 13, 18). A conventional pump (2') can also be used which is then combined with two 3/2-way solenoid valves (40 and 41). A very simple and cost-effective pneumatic suspension system is created which can be provided with an effective silencing (motor casing 3', adapter 46) which can be produced at virtually no additional cost. <IMAGE>
