PURPOSE:To prolong the life of a reference electrode for measuring high temp. and high pressure water up to 300 deg.C, in a reference electrode for measuring pH and an ion concn., by providing an openable and closable lid to the liquid communication part of an internal electrolyte. CONSTITUTION:A reference electrode is constituted so that an electrode 6 is put in an internal electrolyte 5(KCl), and K<+> and C<-> ions transmit a porous liquid communication part 8 to transfer to a measuring solution. An opening and closing movable lid 21 is attached to the liquid communication part 8, and opened and closed by an electromagnet 26 and a spring 22. The lid 21 is opened during measurement but closed during a non-measuring period to prevent the outflow and inflow of the internal electrolyte to the measuring solution. In addition, when the reference electrode is introduced into the high temp. measuring solution, the lid 21 prevents that the electrolyte is accumulated to a liquid sump membrane 11 and flowed out from the liquid communication part 8 by the expansion thereof. Therefore, by providing the movable seal lid 21, the outflow and inflow of the electrolyte can be prevented and the life of the reference electrode can be prolonged by 20 times or more as compared with such a case that the lid 21 is normally opened. |
