A mounting for a retractable drill corer with a cylindrical body has a coupling within the body fixed at its upper end to a cap formed with opposed longitudinal slots, a stop bar connected to the upper end of the body, a locking pin and a lock nut connected to the coupling in the lower end of the body, a split tube spring screwed to the threaded lower end of the body, a signalling rod integral with the lower end of the spring and carrying a gripping collar at its end, and a carrier mounted beneath the rod by a box nut.
