A zeolite with improved stability for use in acid catalysing reactions is manufactured by gentle pre- steaming of the catalyst under controlled temperature, time and steam partial pressure conditions. The catalyst formed has approximately the same activity as the fresh non-steamed catalyst, but a significantly improved stability, making it suitable for the conversion of organic substances, for example the isomerisation of xylene.
