[Also in Division C2] Solutions and pastes which contain solid substances are dried to form granules having a diameter less than 2 mm. by injecting the solution or paste into a fluidized bed of the solid particles maintained in a vertical chamber 1 ending at its base in a downwardlyconverging funnel 4 which is connected to a downwardly-diverging duct 6 which is supplied with gas through tube 7. Supported within duct 6 is a gas-guiding body which has an upwardly - conyerging upper wall and a upwardly-diverging lower wall. The gas-guiding body is supported by a vertical tube the upper end of which ends in a nozzle through which the solution or paste is injected into the fluidized bed. The vertical position of the gas-guiding body is adjustable. A baffle is positioned below the gas-guiding body. The required product granules are removed from chamber 1 through overflow 3. In the upper part of chamber 1 are arranged metal plates 2 folded in zig-zag fashion, whereby entrained fine particles are separated from the ascending gas, and recycled to the fluidised bed. The angle of funnel 4 is about 97‹. The apparatus may be used to produce uniform granules of sodium pentachlophenate having a diameter of about 1 mm, by treating an aqueous solution of the pentachlorophenate with air at a temperature of about 380‹C.</p> |
