PURPOSE:To avoid appearance of the wrap around state to improve the yield by forming an ion implantation layer on all of a slider floating face except a part having a prescribed track width on end faces exposed on the slider floating face of a pseudo lower magnetic material layer, which has a track width wider than the prescribed track width, and a pseudo upper magnetic material layer which has a track width wider than that of the pseudo lower magnetic material layer. CONSTITUTION:A track width W1 of a pseudo lower magnetic material layer 31 is made wider than a prescribed track width W0 which is determined in accordance with resolution, and a track width W2 of a pseudo upper magnetic material layer 32 is set to satisfy W1>W2>W0. Thereafter, a part having the width W0 at least on end faces of the pseudo lower magnetic material layer 31 and the pseudo upper magnetic material layer 32 exposed to the floating face is masked to form the ion implantation layer on all of the floating face. Consequently, this magnetic head has a structure where a magnetic circuit is constituted with upper and lower magnetic material layers having the prescribed track width W0.
